I was a reluctant father … in large part because I did not have a healthy relationship with my own father. But by God’s grace, and after seventeen years of marriage, I was given the gift of fatherhood and will always be grateful for the privilege of learning how to love a child the way our Heavenly Father loves us.

Our daughter is now 20 years old, but school is still in session for me. Sometimes, it’s painfully obvious that I still have much to learn. I’m sharing these precision video tools with you not as a master but as a student.

I didn’t get any of these from my Dad. He was emotionally absent when he was alive, and he died when I was 10 years old. But God placed several father figures in my life who filled the void and modeled for me what a healthy relationship with a father looks like.

This video has over 800,000 views on YouTube, and based on the comments, many others like me share the experience of growing up with an absent father. Regardless of our experience, God’s grace and presence in our lives can enable us to be better fathers for our children. – Tierce
